Whisk’s founder and CEO is Nick Holzherr, who first pitched the business idea to Lord Sugar on BBC One’s The Apprentice.
Nick made it to the final round of The Apprentice and then secured private investment to build Whisk. In 2013, Whisk launched its first product: a smart grocery shopping list tool that helps people around the world discover, save and enjoy recipes and food.
In early 2016, Whisk rolled out a personalized recipe recommendations service. Using Whisk’s Food Genome™ platform, Whisk examines flavour profile of dishes, nutritional value, relationships between ingredients, and how food is cooked. This gives Whisk the ability to make smart recipe suggestions based upon an individual’s palette, taking into consideration allergies and dietary preferences.
Whisk is a globally distributed team with hubs in Birmingham and Moscow.
Whisk believes that people have a unique relationship with food — each with a distinct palette of individual tastes and food preferences. To map these individual relationships, we have created the Food Genome — an instinctive platform that identifies ingredients and how their properties link to chemical flavour compounds, nutrition, perishability, value, availability and ultimately, to product purchase.
Whisk has built the largest marketplace connecting recipe publishers and ecommerce grocery retrailers. We’ve partnered with some of the world’s largest recipe publishers where Whisk is seen by more than 30 million people on 300,000+ recipes.
Whisk is also integrated with Tesco, Ocado, Waitrose, Asda, Peapod and Woolworths grocery stores to provide seamless purchase options in the UK, US and Australia.
